Hospitality House of the Methodist Medical Center

I was encouraged to volunteer at the Hospitality House by Margaret and Mary Ann, when I became a Daughter at St. Stephen's church.  I have been greatly blessed in this service ministry.

The Hospitality House offers 'a home away from home" for the people who travel to Oak Ridge for extended medical treatment.  The houses primarily serve cancer patients and their caregivers.  When space is available, the houses provide free lodging to other patients of Methodist Medical Center and their families.

I have witnessed our Lord at work in the lives of these patients who are battling life threatening illnesses.  I have been humbled by the courage, strength and steadfast faith these patients have in such challenging situations.

The Hospitality Houses need volunteers to work inside and outside in the yards.  I would be glad to talk to anyone who feels called to this ministry.

Ministry of Encouragement

I began to send "thinking of you " cards to members of our church and Daughters who needed a "God Hug" several years ago.  I believe there are times in everyone's  life when encouragement and concern from a friend are special blessings.

On some occasions I have sent a "caring about you " card every week for months, but the norm is a card for a few times as the encouragement is needed.

Our Lord outs the names of these people in my mind during my devotional time, while I am driving or just anytime I am receptive to His voice.  I always include one or more bible quotes on my card to remind people of God's love and concern for them especially in their time of weakness.

I am so thankful to be able to shine God's light of love into someone's life with an expression of care and concern.

Crisis Committee

The Crisis Committee arranges meals for those who have events, some good, and some bad, in their lives.  As a personal area of ministry, I volunteer time and talents.
